SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Catching Academy prides itself on providing elite training that aids catchers in taking the next step in their careers.
The Catching Academy boasts a strong list of alumni who have continued their careers at the collegiate or professional level. The following are all currently active Catching Academy graduates.
Jordan Procyshen, Boston Red Sox
Jordan Procyshen was a member of the Catching Academy while at the Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Academy before moving on to Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. He would then transfer on to Northern Kentucky University for one year before being selected in the 14th round by the Boston Red Sox.
Jordan spent all of 2016 in Advanced-A in the Carolina League with the Salem Red Sox where he hit .249 with four home runs. Procyshen was a rock behind the plate with a .991 fielding percentage while throwing out 43 percent of runners.
Chris Shaw, Baltimore Orioles
Chris Shaw joined the Catching Academy in 2011 while in the Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Academy. He was drafted three times, finally signing with the Baltimore Orioles in 2015 after being taken in the 15th round following his junior year at the University of Oklahoma (NCAA Div. 1).
Shaw played 2016 in the Short-Season New York-Penn League, hitting .133 with two home runs and eight RBIs for the Aberdeen IronBirds. Behind the plate, he threw out 37.5% of base runners.
Jarrett Costa, Oakland Athletics
Jarrett Costa was a member of the Catching Academy for two years at the College of San Mateo before moving on to play two years at UC Santa Barbara (NCAA Div. 1). In 2016, he was drafted in the 33rd round and signed with the Oakland Athletics.
Costa split the 2016 season between Rookie and Short-Season, hitting a cumulative .194 with seven RBIs while throwing out 44% of runners.
Toby DeMello, Southern Illinois Miners
Toby DeMello worked with the Catching Academy back in 2010 while at St. Mary’s College in CA. The Seattle Mariners drafted DeMello after his senior year at St. Mary’s College (NCAA Div. 1). He played three years in their organization and has played the last two with the Frontier League’s Southern Illinois Miners.
DeMello hit .227 with five home runs and 22 RBIs for the Miners in 2016.
Logan Trowbridge, Great Bend Boom
Logan Trowbridge played in the Catching Academy for two years while in Junior College. Logan transferred and played two years at Cal State Bakersfield (NCAA Div. 1), signing after his senior season with the Great Bend Boom where he played in 2016.
Trowbridge hit .359 with five home runs and 45 RBIs in 2016 with 29 stolen bases.
NCAA DIVISION 1
Dylan Isquirdo, Virginia Commonwealth University
Dylan Isquirdo played in the Catching Academy for two years while attending the College of San Mateo before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth in 2016. In his junior year Dylan played in 17 games and in that time had a perfect fielding percentage and eleven assists.
Casey Schwitters, St. Mary’s College
Casey Schwitters participated in the Catching Academy in his final year at Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek, CA and is currently a freshman for the Gaels of St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA.
NCAA DIVISION III
Jared Baur, Occidental College
Jared Baur was in the Catching Academy for his final two years at Deer Valley High School in Antioch, CA. Jared went to Occidental College in Orange, CA where he earned a lot of playing time before getting injured. He looks to rebound from that injury and work towards a stellar sophomore campaign in 2017.
Mitchell Briggs, Chapman University
Briggs was a part of the Catching Academy for two years while attending California High School and is now a freshman at Chapman University.
Ray Soderman, College of San Mateo
Ray Soderman attended the Catching Academy for two years while at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, CA where he was an All-Region Selection. Ray split time as a freshman at College of San Mateo and looks to be the mainstay behind the dish entering his Sophomore season.
Jaxson Shull, Ohlone College
Jaxson attended the Catching Academy for two years while at Napa High School in Napa, CA. Jaxson is a freshman at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA.
Jack Downing, Los Medanos College
Jack attended the Catching Academy for one year while at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, CA. Jack is in the middle of his freshman year at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA.
